Guidelines for Application

We have some guidelines to maintain a fresh, local, and audio fiction-centered show, while working with the limited space of our venue. We are interested in providing our attendees with a healthy mix of local talent, diverse talent, creators who are podcast veterans, and new indie exhibitors just getting started in audio fiction. Our goal is to maximize the diversity of our exhibitor roster in several senses of the word: diversity of genre, of styles, and of voices. Additionally, as the Boston area’s major independent audio fiction show, we strive as much as possible to give a platform for local and regional creators. Using these criteria, the show will be fully curated by the PodTales jury. We appreciate your understanding that our available space is limited, and it’s important to us to consider the following factors:

  • We need to review your audio fiction.
In the upcoming application we’ll ask for a link to a your audio fiction’s website, an online portfolio, or shared file with samples of your audio fiction. We can’t consider you without them! The more accessible your audio fiction is to the public, the better. You can create a supercut of examples of your audio fiction, or link to a specific episode (or a small sample of episodes).
  • Audio Fiction related material should count for at least half of your show material.
You’re excited about audio fiction and so are we. It’s totally fine to have other items to display, promote, or sell, but half of what you’re promoting, displaying, or selling should be related to the theme of the show.
  • Diverse Fiction, Diverse Creators
We want this to be a welcoming space for all sorts of audio fiction creators. That means we want audio drama representation, audio fiction representation, actual play podcasts, shows with single voice monologues and shows with casts of thousands. We need to maintain a balanced, representative community, and it’s important for us to give creators of color, queer creators, and trans creators the chance to display their work. Everyone is encouraged to apply, but our curated process will strive to show off the beautiful diversity of the audio fiction podcasting community.
  • Consider asking for a Shared Table Space.
If you’re a student or a newcomer to the world of audio fiction, consider requesting table space you’d be willing to share with another creator.

  • Subsidized Table Space for Financial Need.
If you’re a creator who wants to exhibit at PodTales but cannot afford table space because of financial need, please indicate this in the appropriate areas on the Exhibitor Application. A subsidized Half-Table grant may be available for qualified exhibitors.
