PodTales: A Festival of Audio Drama and Fiction Podcasting Comes to Cambridge, MA This Fall

For Immediate Release

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (April 9th, 2019)PodTales: A Festival of Audio Drama and Fiction Podcasting (PodTales), the only event in the United States dedicated to the burgeoning art forms of imaginative audio storytelling, will hold its first annual festival on October 20, 2019, at Lesley University’s Porter Square campus. PodTales  will be free and open to the public.

“The mission of PodTales is to advance the art of fiction podcasting by creating a fun and welcoming event for devoted listeners and those newly curious about the form alike,” said PodTales Founder and Director Alexander Danner. “We want PodTales to celebrate the work of established creators, and also to foster new creators just beginning to pursue their own audio stories.”

PodTales is partnering with The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE), the beloved comic arts festival that will hold its 10th annual show this fall in Lesley University’s Porter Exchange building. By working together, PodTales and MICE will create a cross-media celebration of storytelling, honoring both the graphic and sonic arts.

“The prospect of having representatives of such an electric and innovative medium as part of MICE this year is just thrilling,” said Jordan Stillman, MICE Co-Organizer, Exhibitor Relations. “Comics and audio drama touch a similar pulse of rich storytelling. This provides an excellent opportunity for our community to dive into one of the most exciting areas of podcasting happening right now.”

PodTales will feature an exhibit hall spotlighting over 40 independent podcasters, enabling attendees to discover a wealth of diverse audio experiences. Shows exhibited will span the full gamut of fiction genres, including speculative fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, and horror), romance, and thrillers, as well as literary and experimental works. Creators will be available to sample and discuss their work with existing fans and curious explorers alike. Programming will include discussion panels, workshops, and talks presented by working writers, performers, and sound designers. Programming will be both practical and topical, serving both fans and aspiring creators.

Exhibitor applications will be open from May 1 to June 1, 2019.

Special guests will be announced in the coming weeks. Visit PodTales.org for more information, and follow us on Twitter at @PodTalesFest.

The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo was established in 2010 to create a showcase space for artists and writers in the greater-Boston area working in the field of comics. Unlike traditional comics shows, which emphasize commerce and memorabilia, MICE puts a focus on the art of making comics.
